Understand the meters

Attention and approval are different.

Something can be everywhere in the media and still disappoint you. Something extraordinary can be almost unknown. FuckinAwesome keeps public attention and community judgment separate.

The community meters answer: what do voters here think?

The Awesome and Bullshit meters reflect votes on this site. Meh contributes to the total without endorsing either side. Small vote totals can swing quickly; read the count alongside the percentage. These are community opinions, not product tests or a representative poll of everyone.

Internet interest answers a different question

The five-stage interest indicator uses available evidence of attention to the specific subject. Sources include independent coverage and subject-specific Wikipedia readership. A famous brand alone earns no rating, and brand-wide readership is excluded. The labels are stages in a disclosed rubric, not proof that attention is accelerating.

How the stages are set

Recent coverage uses a 14-day window: 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12 independent publisher groups correspond to stages 1–5. Established coverage can contribute for up to 90 days, capped at stage 3. Subject-specific readership can set a stage using average daily page views of 10, 50, 200, 1,000 and 5,000 over the latest available week. The highest supported stage is shown; unlike metrics are not added together.

Automatic does not mean instantaneous

Open cards check for updates every minute. News results refresh approximately every 15 minutes when requested; readership data updates daily and is cached for six hours. Indexing delays, missing matches and provider outages can take longer. The index is incomplete. A missing meter means there is insufficient usable evidence, not proof of no interest.

Read the evidence, then decide

Use the question mark beside the interest meter to inspect its explanation and sources. AI can assist interest and demand research, discovery searches and unsafe-content moderation. AI-generated discovery content is prohibited and rejected when identified. Neither attention research nor moderation casts a vote for you.
